The Hammer of the Inquisition

For those operations where the surgical strike of the Grey Knights is not possible, Inquisitor Coteaz has at his disposal a small force composed of hand picked units from various Astra Militarum regiments.

All but invisible to the Departmento Munitorum, they operate under the radar of most Imperial Commanders, and also the Inquisition itself. They answer directly to Inquisitor Coteaz, who formed them personally after their core members distinguished themselves against in a battle against forces from the Immaterium. Where all other Astra Militarum and Astra Astartes forces failed, a small core from one of the Cadian regiments had dug in and held out until Coteaz arrived with a Grey Knight Brotherhood and turned the battle.

They were going to be cleansed, but Coteaz paused. Considering how effective they had been, and how stretched the Inquisition was, he thought he could find a use for them. After a round of cleansing by the Grey Knights, the survivors formed the core of his new force.

Ultimately disposable, they operate in the shadows of the Imperium, constantly under threat from the force of Chaos on one side, and the Coteaz on the other. Any day he could decide their very existence is too risky, and they could find themselves purged utterly by the Knights.
